Parliamentary friends of clean air quality holds first meeting in Canberra

The first meeting of the Parliamentary friends of clean air quality was held at Parliament House in Canberra last week. Co-chaired by Senator Michelle Ananda-Rajah and Dr Monique Ryan MP, the meeting was convened to discuss indoor air quality and the impact it has on Australians, particularly people who are living with chronic conditions or disability, and possible pathways to national indoor air quality standards.

Assistant Minister for Health Rebecca White MP also joined the meeting, announcing that CSIRO is currently undertaking a project sponsored by The Australian Centre for Disease Control to assess the economic cost of poor indoor air quality in Australia. The project will quantify the economic cost of poor indoor air quality various indoor settings and develop an economic model to inform future policy and investment decisions.

Due to be published in October, we welcome the announcement of this pivotal study.
